Kakshas

Kakshas is one of the eight parts of Zodiacs which is needed in Asthakavargas. The Asthakavargas is an exclusive way of dividing each of the twelve rasis or zodiac signs into eight sub divisions, based on the influence of the `lagna` or time and the seven main planets on these twelve rasis.

For the purpose Asthakavargas each rasi is divided into eight parts called Kakshas. Each kaksha has a span of 3:45`. The first kaksha of each rasi is ruled by Saturn, the second is controlled by Jupiter, the third is by Mars, the fourth rasi by sun, fifth by Venus, sixth by mercury, the seventh rasi by moon and the last rasi is ruled by the lagna. There are three types of Ashtakavarga charts which are used to study the effects of the planets.
